| Fluxus Box Wood, Wire, Seashells, Glass, Clay 8"x 5" x 8" |
This sculpture reflects themes of focus and intention. While reflecting on the final product I had a realization, this box feels like a self portrait. There's attention to detail and quirks. The natural materials bring out a sense of earthy wonder. The color choices are calming yet playful. The process of creating this box was can be likened to the sport of climbing. Physical labor that requires a sharp, contemplative mind. The combination of concentration and movement. This box required sanding, routing and patience while the glue dried. There's an anxiety when working with the tools that allow you to manipulate wood, large machines that hold the potential of physical harm. It's an adrenaline rush. Hours of work and dedication was put into creating this piece. I am proud of this physical manifestation of my discipline.
Notes:
Name of Movie: Free Solo
The process was enjoyable and meditative.
Creating the plans for the box was overwhelming at times but ultimately rewarding in the sense that it's similar to a puzzle.
Finishing the box and sealing it with oil was incredibly satisfying. It's nice to feel like you can put a work down, like it's finished and you no longer have to work on it. Not every project offers that freedom.
